Custom Metal Fabrication for Sports, Fitness and Schools

When an imported product is too costly, does not exist, or simply will not fit the space, Apex Sports can help design and fabricate a practical solution in Singapore.

Examples of custom sports and fitness metal fabrication by Apex Sports

From an operational problem to a workable product

Apex Sports brings together equipment sourcing, sports-industry knowledge and local metal fabrication. Our fabrication team is deliberately small and lean, allowing us to take on bespoke and smaller-scale projects cost-effectively. Our head welder has more than 40 years of metalworking experience.

We work with schools, sports organisations, gyms, small businesses and individual customers. You do not need to arrive with an engineering drawing: tell us what the product must do, show us the space and constraints, and we will guide you through suitable materials, dimensions and design choices.

Useful information for an initial quote

  • Purpose and intended users
  • Photographs of similar products
  • Ideal dimensions
  • Photographs and measurements of the site
  • Any loading, storage, access or installation constraints

Bespoke & small-scale

One-off equipment, short runs and unusual requirements are welcome.

Guided consultation

We help turn a functional need into suitable materials and dimensions.

Site-aware design

We account for lighting, access, storage, mounting and existing structures.

School-ready purchasing

Quotations, purchase orders and e-invoicing are available for approved organisations.

Selected fabrication projects

These completed projects show the range of constraints that a custom solution can address.

Freestanding custom aerial yoga rig fabricated for Her Tribe

Freestanding aerial yoga rig

Past client: Her Tribe

A freestanding overhead structure was created because the false walls and ceiling did not allow mounting. It had to remain stable during static workouts while providing enough beams for a class without making the room feel obstructed.

Portable outdoor calisthenics rig fabricated for NUS Calisthenics CCA

Portable calisthenics rig

Past client: NUS Calisthenics CCA

The brief called for a smooth 1.8 m rung that would resist bending, remain stable during dynamic movements, assemble quickly for training and dismantle for storage. Professional Engineer certification formed part of the school project requirements.

Custom plate-loadable athletics sprint sled for Singapore Athletics

Athletics sprint sled

Past client: Singapore Athletics

This large, heavy-duty sled was uneconomical to ship from overseas. It was fabricated wide and tall enough to pass over starting blocks, with a stable structure that could be loaded using standard weight plates.

Ceiling-mounted suspension training rack installed at School of the Arts Singapore

Ceiling suspension training rack

Past client: School of the Arts (SOTA)

An overhead suspension-training rack was mounted at approximately 4 m. Its layout had to avoid lights arranged in a hexagonal pattern, sit 50 cm below them and remain stable without noticeable wobble during use.

Mobile athletics equipment storage cage for Singapore Athletics

Mobile athletics storage cage

Past client: Singapore Athletics

The cage combines a lockable upper compartment for expensive items, two levels for discus storage and a level for sleds. Industrial wheels allow the loaded unit to be moved more comfortably.

Custom compact dumbbell storage baskets for a gym

Compact dumbbell baskets

Past client: Move to Live Singapore

Tall baskets keep same-weight dumbbells together while occupying a small footprint. Each basket was dimensioned around the actual dumbbells so they would sit securely rather than topple within the rack.

Storage, racks and specialist accessories

Custom storage can make better use of space, protect equipment and reduce day-to-day handling problems.

Black and red custom wire mesh sports equipment storage cages

Wire mesh equipment cages

Common configurations include 1.5 m × 45 cm × 2 m and 2 m × 60 cm × 2 m. The latter is the more common school choice when space permits. Other dimensions and connectable arrangements can be fabricated on request.

  • Shelves: wire mesh promotes ventilation and does not rot; plywood can be useful for very small items.
  • Colours: black is the standard option, with red, yellow, green or blue available subject to quotation.
  • Doors: swing doors are mechanically simple and durable when clearance permits. Sliding doors are available where space is tight.
  • Production: as these cages are made locally to order, typical lead time is about 2–6 weeks depending on project backlog and site requirements.

Ask us for current pricing, delivery access requirements and the most suitable configuration for your space.

Wall-mounted equipment storage and suspension trainer rack

Wall storage and suspension rack

A single wall-mounted structure can provide light-equipment storage and anchor points for suspension trainers. On this Singapore Athletics project, square rungs were deliberately used to discourage unintended pull-up use.

Custom wheeled trolley for storing sports hoops

Made-to-measure trolleys

Trolleys can be designed around the dimensions, weight and handling needs of the actual equipment, from hoops and balls to bulky athletics items. Wheel type, handle height and compartment layout can be adapted to the users and site.

Custom pull-up and suspension training bars installed at a residence

Pull-up bar variants

Pull-up and suspension bars can be adapted for wall, ceiling or freestanding use. Previous variants include separate rungs for gymnastic rings and pull-ups, as well as compact installations for condominiums and training rooms.

Custom weight plate stacker used at the Under Armour Test of Will event

Weight plate stacker and event fixture

Past project: Under Armour Test of Will

The fixture used a stable plate-loadable base and a stand for resistance bands that marked the required height during battling-rope movements—an example of a simple custom item solving a very specific event need.

On-site welding, retrofit and reinforcement

Sometimes the sensible solution is to improve an existing structure instead of fabricating a completely new product.

Pull-up bars welded onto existing boxing bag mounts

Pull-up bars added to boxing mounts

Bars were welded onto an existing boxing-bag structure for Move to Live Singapore. Reusing the structure saved floor and wall space while keeping the finished addition visually consistent with the gym.

Triangle guide plates welded to school incline pull-up bars

Incline pull-up training guides

Triangle plates were welded to the existing bars at Springfield Secondary School so a bungee guide could be attached. The visual and physical reference helps students train the intended movement mechanics more consistently.

On-site welding and completed steel reinforcement for a bouldering wall

Bouldering wall reinforcement

Although the Fit Bloc structure was structurally sound, users could feel movement in the overhead frame. Additional steel bracing was welded in to make the structure feel substantially stiffer during use.

Old benches welded together and repurposed as kettlebell storage

Bench-to-kettlebell storage retrofit

Heavy and cumbersome benches were joined and repurposed as low kettlebell storage for Move to Live Singapore, extending their useful life while solving a separate storage problem.

Before and after refurbishment of worn sports and fitness equipment

Equipment refurbishment

We have refurbished power racks, prowlers, kettlebells and other sports equipment. Depending on condition, the work may involve grinding away rust, replacing or fabricating missing parts, repairing welds and applying a new finish.

Refurbishment can save money, reduce waste and keep otherwise serviceable equipment in use. Send clear photographs and a description of the defect for an initial assessment.

How a custom project proceeds

  1. Share the requirement. Tell us the purpose, users, dimensions and constraints; photographs are extremely useful.
  2. Discuss the practical options. We advise on materials, layout, mounting, mobility, finish and likely trade-offs.
  3. Receive an initial estimate. A price range can be prepared from the initial concept, subject to the final design and site conditions.
  4. Confirm the design. A 3D sketch or equivalent drawing is prepared where appropriate, revised and confirmed before production.
  5. Fabricate, install and invoice. Deposit and balance milestones are stated in the quotation. Approved schools and organisations may use purchase orders and e-invoicing arrangements.

About on-site welding

On-site work costs more than workshop fabrication because welding equipment, safety equipment and, where necessary, permits must be brought to and managed at the site. We will advise when workshop fabrication followed by installation is the more efficient option.

Have an unusual product or site problem?

Send us photographs, approximate dimensions and a short explanation of what the finished item needs to do. We will tell you what additional information is needed for a useful first estimate.
